Canadian Visitors

New Zealand — Sarah King

As I drove over the harbour bridge this morning there was no wind so the two flags lay limply against their flagpoles. One I could see was red so I guessed it was for the Lions rugby team, on tour in NZ currently.

A gust of wind caught the red flag and for a second the flag was fully unfurled and it was the Canadian flag.

Now, the flags of other countries are used when there are dignitaries visiting or some major event. I searched the local media and the only Canadian news I could find was Canadian Parliament approves same sex marriage. Can’t be that, surely?

  1. I noticed today that the flags were at half mast - respect for the people of London. A sad day that reawakens the world to the threats that live in our society.
