The Generation Gap that swallows you whole!

January 21st, 2010 by Sarah King

An SOS went out today from a young BMX racer via Facebook that his website had been hacked. I took a look at http://marcwillers.com/ and the first thing that struck me was that it wasn’t a typical hacking… closer inspection of the Facebook messages showed that there was some sort of conflict between Marc and “RMC” – the original site developer.

A few hours later and Marc’s site is back to normal, but with a new post of midget porn dedicated to RMC.

Now I’ve met both these guys and RMC runs (owns?) a large bike store across town. I’m guessing amongst his mates he has a reputation as a prankster (although there will be a hipper name these days).

Marc made it to the Olympics in his chosen sport and it’s a tough sport where you need as much of a mental edge as with any other. I race BMX too and there’s something very special about it and the people

Mallard says winning always counts, yeah right

June 29th, 2006 by Sarah King

In the article that follows Trevor Mallard is quoted as saying

The “politically correct” habit of not keeping score in children’s competitions should be a thing of the past

Well it should be, but I have children at primary school and Read the rest of this entry »

DropIn TV

March 3rd, 2006 by Sarah King

No problem knowing where you’ll find me on a Thursday night – gazing at the square box with my pulse rate up through the roof! DropIn TV has started and it’s a blast (check out their teaser). I actually have to remind myself that I can’t actually ride like that but maybe the visualisation works!!! Read the rest of this entry »

Winning feels So Good!

February 21st, 2006 by Sarah King

My children have just decided that they want to enter the BMX Nationals at Cambridge this Easter so we had a big flurry to get the qualified as there were only 4 NQM race meets left and we had to do 3! It’s meant two weekends full of travel to races, standing in the heat and dust – and that’s just us! They have to do alot of hard work. Read the rest of this entry »

Woodhill Train Station

February 16th, 2006 by Sarah King

Well, it would make a lot of sense wouldn’t it?

I’m surprised Maxx & co haven’t smelt the CRC and decided to cash in on their existing, but seemingly idle infrastructure.

3 trains a day on Saturday and Sunday

I’d run 3 trains each weekend day up to Helensville, one early in the morning, one arriving in Helensville in time for lunch and another later in the afternoon. Read the rest of this entry »

Bikewise

February 5th, 2006 by Sarah King
Bikewise Week

Bikewise is an initiative to encourage NZ’ers onto their bikes and it’s held in the first week of February. Never mind that cycling on the roads is only for the truly brave and committed due to our roads barely catering for bikes.

We love bikes though so we’ll be embracing Bikewise again this year – and even organising an event (details to follow).

You will definately find us at the Mountain Bike Jams at Woodhill but we’ll be missing the Western Springs ride which is a really good event for most children.

Unfortunately when I don’t work from home I work across the harbour bridge – no cycle lane – so biking on Go By Bike Day is not an option.

BMX Race Software

August 30th, 2005 by Sarah King

I’ve been having a big search around the BMX forums and websites looking for race software. Apart from the fact that the more glamourous freestyle bmx is dominant the sites also focus on the participants and not the people holding it all together. I guess that has been the cry of club admins the since time began. Read the rest of this entry »

One day, when I get my life back, I’m going to start using the emails the Girls on Top crew send for their intended purpose! They always have great sounding training events and link to come really cool sports events too.
