Trademe’s ultimate auction!

March 6th, 2006 by Sarah King

NZ online auction house TradeMe has just been sold despite earlier pledges of “I won’t sell” by baby-tycoon Sam Morgan. He started up the eBay wannabe site in 1999 and despite attempts to compete it remains the dominant auction house in NZ.

But get this – he sold it for $700million! That’s alot of dosh being thrown around by Fairfax and it’s ex-All Black CEO David Kirk.

Stuff (also in the Fairfax stable) have an article on it: Fairfax acquires Trade Me for $700m. Lets hope Fairfax don’t spoil the magic!

vBulletin’s inbuilt RSS feeds

March 6th, 2006 by Sarah King

A great many vBulletin forum owners appear to be unaware that their forums can provide an RSS feed “out of the box”.

This is a great shame because it limits the forums ability to grow and have visibility.

In vBulletin it’s things like allowing users to subscribe to daily digests of posts to a forum. Pretty much the same thing result as an RSS feed but it’s turned on by default and forum owners don’t proactively turn it off. Read the rest of this entry »

I actually have to remind myself that I can’t actually ride like that but maybe the visualisation works!!! Read the rest of this entry »

Link Vault: No SEO Contest adverts allowed.

March 2nd, 2006 by Sarah King

It’s good to see Link Vault step up and work to keep the network clean. Granted I was an offender :) but I totally support their stand and am glad to see them tighten things up. They’ve sent me a nice, brief email and left it up to me to clean up my account too – rather than just taking over and throwing the item out. It’s official too, and listed as item #15 in their guidelines.
