One little tennis ball!

My boy has a tennis racket. His best mate Dan has a tennis racket. His big sister has a balcony on the first floor of our house. She gets mad when the boy and his mate knock tennis balls onto her balcony. It’s great sport!

Our house has a flat roof with a single drain in it. The drain opening is slightly smaller than a tennis ball. It rained last night. And our house leaked. Mostly because the tennis ball was acting as a plug and water on the roof was almost knee deep.

Strangely, once the tennis ball was removed the water stopped pouring through the light fittings :)

Small boys have alot to answer to!

Trademe’s ultimate auction!

NZ online auction house TradeMe has just been sold despite earlier pledges of “I won’t sell” by baby-tycoon Sam Morgan. He started up the eBay wannabe site in 1999 and despite attempts to compete it remains the dominant auction house in NZ.

But get this - he sold it for $700million! That’s alot of dosh being thrown around by Fairfax and it’s ex-All Black CEO David Kirk.

Stuff (also in the Fairfax stable) have an article on it: Fairfax acquires Trade Me for $700m. Lets hope Fairfax don’t spoil the magic!

vBulletin’s inbuilt RSS feeds

A great many vBulletin forum owners appear to be unaware that their forums can provide an RSS feed “out of the box”.

This is a great shame because it limits the forums ability to grow and have visibility.

Now the naysayers will say one of two things

  1. I don’t want people stealing my content
  2. I want people to visit the forum and if they use feeds they might not (usually because of ad revenue)

The reality is that there are a great many forums out there all competing for the same users and you need to use every competitive advantage there is. In vBulletin it’s things like allowing users to subscribe to daily digests of posts to a forum. Pretty much the same thing result as an RSS feed but it’s turned on by default and forum owners don’t proactively turn it off.

DropIn TV

No problem knowing where you’ll find me on a Thursday night - gazing at the square box with my pulse rate up through the roof! DropIn TV has started and it’s a blast (check out their teaser). I actually have to remind myself that I can’t actually ride like that but maybe the visualisation works!!!

Link Vault: No SEO Contest adverts allowed.

It’s good to see Link Vault step up and work to keep the network clean. Granted I was an offender :) but I totally support their stand and am glad to see them tighten things up. They’ve sent me a nice, brief email and left it up to me to clean up my account too - rather than just taking over and throwing the item out. It’s official too, and listed as item #15 in their guidelines.

Link Vault says no to seo contests
