Will TreatFeeder kill TreatFeed?
May 17th, 2011 by Sarah KingOr “How your affiliates can kill your brand“.
We’ve got an interesting situation at digitalpoint at the moment where a bot (or just underpaid, semi literate humans?) signs up for new accounts and posts a handful of identical posts.
Human seems possible when you see them leave in their instructions (should be clickable)

An email to TreatFeed hasn’t elicited any response but you’d have to think all that funding will have to go into marketing to clean up the negative PR associated with all that spam.
Another problem child is DVDrip who try to lure you into downloading a new release DVD from Filesonic – a pay per download site. They’re not happy that their links are being spammed about the place and I gather they are watching DVDrip with interest. Good job!
Akismet
I’m at a loss as to why these posts aren’t ending up in the moderated threads queue reserved for those that Akismet finds dubious. Surely digitalpoint isn’t the only forum being spammed by these two? How long until they reach the threshold and start getting sidelined? Not long, I hope!

Akismet learns Russian?
November 5th, 2008 by Sarah KingIn the first real test of Akismet‘s flexibility it now needs to learn Russian. For the last few days the flow of spam has been consistent – and uncaught.
It’s hard to imagine that many Russians are reading this blog but the link back to the site is worth something and there must be naive webmasters out there who approve this stuff.
It’ll be interesting to see how many days it takes for Akismet to learn Russian and start removing this stuff from my queue.

Akismet saved my blog!
October 26th, 2005 by Sarah KingI took a rare look at the dashboard of my WordPress blog and saw that Matt Mullenweg was looking for beta testers for a new spam blocking tool. I was getting hammered by spammers and they were driving me mad so I emailed him and found myself accepted.
Akismet is the end result of that beta testing – and it’s awesome. I’m actually getting less spam as a result at the spammers can see that their efforts are going nowhere! Phew. Read the rest of this entry »
