Who serves who at Yahoo?

Other Stuff — Sarah King

Last year I took a punt on a 4 letter .com domain: nzrh.com and bought it through Yahoo Business. All went well and then as part of a consolidation exercise I moved it, and some other domains to a new registrar.

Domain Registration for nzrh.com

The transfer worked without a hitch so imagine my surprise to be getting the heavy now from Yahoo because they can’t auto renew the domain!

Yahoo gets heavy

Sure, I never actually said “cancel this domain renewal” when I transfered, I figured it was fair enough to assume they’d work that out all on their own. After all if you’re not the registrar you’re not going to be able to provide the service, are you?!

So, now I’m stuck trying to remove this from their system. The nice little link saying cancel this service doesn’t work so I’m left trying to call their 0800 number. I’d be stuck there too since you can’t call 0800 numbers from offshore and they don’t off an alternative. Luckily Skype steps in and gives me the ability to call them!

I’ll update this as I go, but hopefully it’ll be easily resolved.

  1. Thankfully my first successful call through to Yahoo connected me with a rep who was able to cancel the service.

  2. Yahoo! Aren’t accredit registrar but a reseller for Melbourne IT Ltd (Or whatever they call that deal) and such problem is likely to happen when you buy domain from a reseller, Same happens with domains that I registered with Yahoo! and RegFly (when they were enom resellers)
