v7ndotcom elursrebmem
SEO contests are increasingly being used to test the patience of Google (the usual focus) and the skills of the internet marketing community as they try to flex muscle and prove they have what it takes to be #1.
I’m not watching all of them but v7n’s v7ndotcom elursrebmem or “v7ndotcom membersrule” has caught my attention and I’m throwing what influence I have behind Alek’s campaign to raise funds for Celiac Research through his innovative v7ndotcom elursrebmem webcam site.

Affiliations are critical, and we’re seeing link building as being a key component, more so, it seems, than traditional onpage optimisation. There is the expectation that in the final days that high ranking sites will use 301 redirects to the “group leader” which effectively combines all the sites into one. Personally I don’t see the 301 strategy as being terribly helpful to understanding how to rank well as they are only used when moving from domain to domain or merging sites - not a standard practice.
For more info on the contest, which finishes on May 15, read this forum post: Contest Keywords Announcement

Oh, and we’ve been having some fun with mockup images too I went for a bottle of wine

Well, it’s all over now, and the team came 4th which was a massive result. We’re looking now at the carcasherdotcom seocontest with the Celiac Charity as the benefactor.
I’ve created a new place to post about it: Fun and SEO Games

I have learned some hours ago from Digg.com about this contest, while I was submitting my Blog and because of Joomla update. I have laughed, because so many of them are there digging there and has now a “Spam” Comment and they are “Reportet”
I have seen now about this contest all over the Internet, Blogsearch, Google Base, Digital Point Forums, Google News……everywhere all over the Internet.
Good Luck to you and all!!!

v7ndotcom elursrebmem SEO contest?
Apparently there’s a contest going around on the keywords V7NDOTCOM ELURSREBMEM, which involves not only a lot of tricks on Google, but some very odd pages and domains being registered. You can read more about their contest on the v7n forums,…

Yeah, this is gonna be fun! There is already more than 15 contestants in the SERPs! Good luck to both of us! PS: Sarah, how did you find my blog, I’ve seen that you posted a comment?

Nadir - I’m chasing Google’s blog search tool. The main google wasn’t giving results but it was. It picks up blogspot blogs very quickly

This is really funny, Google is serving up two ads when I search for v7ndotcom elursrebmem - but no results. People in America are getting results, but not us poor old Kiwis! What gives Google, our data centres don’t get the good stuff?
Atleast Yahoo is on the ball!

Good luck with it Sarah. FYI: This is one of the few pages that garnered a PR6 (it’s in the top 10 pages by PR over at nichedynamics Movers & Shakers)..
I’m still trying to figure out who Sebastian Shmieg is though
Oh yeah.. regarding the badges: When they’re generated, the referrer data is checked first, then if there’s no referrer, they operate from the URL arg that’s passed.. which is why both badges are showing the same rank. The score cards operate differently and allow the URL to take precedence.
Just thought I’d better let you know in case you’re behind a firewall and not passing referrer data (in which case they would look normal to you)
Cheers,
JL

Woops, my mistake, looked down the page and saw the theme creator and thought it was the site owner. I’ll correct it now
Comment by sarahk — February 22, 2006 @ 7:17 am
I hope that John wins, he’s not the avergage spammer and he doesn’t abuse the charity card to get links
Comment by Mike Dammann — February 23, 2006 @ 5:40 am
Oh Mike, harsh call. Hulk’s been about for a long time and consistently working to raise awareness of the charity. I can’t see it as abuse, it’s a strategy and not one that will profit him any time soon.
Comment by sarahk — February 23, 2006 @ 5:43 am
Normally I would balk at someone using the charity angle (in this context), but a lot of people seem to forget what motivates him isn’t the competition, it’s his kids.
I’m a dad myself, and well, I just can’t fault the guy for it.
On the merits of that alone, I’d actually be quite chuffed to see him win (but don’t tell him that)
PS Mike, thanks again for the link
Cheers,
JL

The Contest is over - congratulations to all the winner!

Thanks for the Link Sarah, my Blog has PR5 now
Iam No. 30 - good
Comment by Wally — May 16, 2006 @ 11:17 am
But Wally, how can you capitalise on that PR5? After all your blog name looks kinda sad now doesn’t it?
Comment by sarahk — May 16, 2006 @ 11:23 am
True, thats exactly the point I hate
Too bad I can not change the Blogname.
But ok, maybe I can put links from my other sites on that blog - nothing more.
Have a nice Day,
Bye Wally
