Muslim Politician: “Certainly what the Koran says is correct”

It’s never easy bringing a new religion into a secular society based upon an opposing religion.

Despite our limited religious activity here the Christian faith underpins society and if push came to shove we’d be picking their churches as the basis of our beliefs.

So Ashraf Choudhary must feel continually under fire as a Muslim politician. I haven’t seen the program but the fallout has been considerable. In a recent interview he was asked:

“Are you saying the Koran is wrong to recommend that gays in certain circumstances be stoned to death?”

He replied:

” No, no. Certainly what the Koran says is correct.”

and so the condemnation started. But as Russell Brown points out in his inimitable way

he was invited to declare that the Koran was incorrect in saying so. That was how the question was asked. For a Muslim leader to say the Koran is incorrect is, I gather, beyond serious.

Russell then goes on to point out that the Bible also recommends stoning and other barbaric practices all of which probably proves why it’s a good thing we ARE secular!
